Laser Hair Removal

by admin on October 9, 2010

Laser hair removal has been a widely-available means of removing hair since the late 1990’s, when laser technology really came into its own in all kinds of industries.  This kind of hair removal has long been known to be safe and effective.

In fact, even the Food and Drug Administration has stated that this process is a valid means of getting rid of hair, and the FDA does not sign off on any product lightly.

How does laser hair removal work?  What happens is the laser beam zeroes in on a target, namely melanin, the substance that gives skin its color.  (For this reason, laser hair removal works better with dark hair than it does with light hair.)

And when the laser machine zaps the melanin in an area where unwanted hair is growing, the heat and energy of the laser is absorbed by the melanin, so that the laser won’t heat up any of the rest of the skin.

Even so, cooling methods are usually offered to the hair removal subject after a laser treatment session; these methods of cooling include pumping in sub-zero air, and spraying the skin with a cryogen spray.  Depending on how skillful the person who’s operating the laser is, and how good the laser machinery at a clinic is, laser hair removal can be accomplished in as few as three sessions, or as many as eight.  These main sessions are usually followed by what are known as “touch-up sessions,” sessions that target smaller hairs that might not have been eliminated.

There are drawbacks to laser hair removal, however.  First, some people just don’t want to take the time to go to a clinic to have hair removed—especially people with busy schedules—when they can simply shave their legs at home, in private.

Second, laser hair removal is expensive, and hair often will grow back at some point in the future.  Finally, some people—for reasons not fully understood—don’t respond to this kind of hair removal; the lasers simply fail to take off their hair.

What Are the Best Hair Removal Products?

by admin on October 6, 2010

The best hair removal products are those products that are safe, effective at removing hair, easy to use and that fit your budget.

Given that the hair removal industry market always seems to be expanding, you might find it difficult to select just one kind of product.

The best hair removal products are those products that suit your needs, and those needs vary from body part to body part.

If you want to get rid of clumps of hair from your face—the hairs growing between your eyebrows, for instance, which create the dreaded unibrow effect—tweezers are probably the best hair removal products for you.

You might find electric tweezers work better, or you might find the tweezers that your grasp with your own fingers to be more accurate.  Other people want a softer, gentler approach.

To get rid of hair on your arms, for example, the gentlest and best hair removal products might be hair removal creams.  You simply take some cream, apply it to your arm without rubbing it into your skin, and after ten minutes or so, wipe it off with a hot towel.  Out come the hairs!

Some like to use electrolysis or laser hair removal for their legs, finding the results more long-lasting, but for many people, when it comes to the legs the best hair removal products are a sharp razor blade and some shaving cream.  It’s fast, it’s relatively easy, and it’s pain-free (so long as you don’t accidentally cut yourself).

On the other hand, if you want to give yourself a bikini wax, which is to say remove any hairs that could possibly show when you’re wearing even the most revealing bikini, you might find that the best hair removal products for taking away the hair from your more private areas are strips of wax.

They might hurt a little, but you don’t risk giving yourself any little nicks, and you can remove a swath of hair with one swoop—albeit a pretty painful swoop.  (When it comes to a Brazilian wax, however, you might want the assistance of a professional.)
